Viola Tone Award
Violin Society of America International Competition ~
Baltimore, 2006 & New York, 1980

In 1978, the Mannes College of Music commissioned two violins from Geoffrey Ovington. The Vienna Philharmonic honored Geoffrey Ovington's work in 1991 with the commission of three violas, the only commission made by that orchestra to an American Maker.

Because the viola design presents special challenges, Geoffrey Ovington works on a number of patterns. In some instances, instrument models came from early Italian examples and these are noted.
